Book update

I just updated the eBook again. It'll take about 12 hours for it to process, so it's not available yet.

This time I made what I'd call significant revisions. I didn't change any theories or arguments, but I tried to tighten up the reasoning and the writing. That means that I deleted some stuff which I thought was repetitive or confusing (mostly in Amends); added some transitions; clarified some points which, on re-read I thought were unclear; and moved some passages around in order to improve the flow.

If anyone wants to discuss the book in comments under this post, they can do that without spoiler warnings. New viewers beware!

  1. Hi Mark,
I stumbled across your blog about a year ago while re-watching the series in order (my previous viewing had been fragmented) and loved it.
I've embarked on another re-watch and am about to hit Surprise/Innocence so I may chime in on some of your recaps :)
In addition to your comprehensive analysis, I enjoy when you make mention of something/someone as one of your favorite bits of dialogue, one of your favorite scenes, favorite villain, favorite recurring character. With that and the fact that you've finished recapping the series in mind, have you considered publishing top 10 lists of your favorite scenes, recurring characters, etc. It's my humble opinion that they'd make a great read and add to your already fantastic blog. :)
And when that's done, maybe you could do a "least favorite" series.... Okay maybe I'm getting ahead of myself here. But would love to see additional content from you!
    Thanks for the great recaps,
    Allison

  2. I have thought about doing that sort of thing, and I even published a couple such lists at ATPO. I go back and forth. Those lists are fun to create, but they're very subjective. Worse yet, my lists change over time, though probably not as much now as they did 10 years ago. I'll take your suggestion as a push in that direction, though.

  3. I'd like to keep up with your thinking, but I purchased your 2013 version and have made numerous highlights and notes on the text. So, if I download the 2014 version, am I charged for another purchase? I image it will replace my 2013 version and lose all of my highlights and notes? Would the new version be worth that? Is there a way to save the old version separately? Any thoughts or advice on this?

    1. As I understand it, you should be able to get updated versions for free. However, I believe downloading the update will delete your existing bookmarks, etc. Unfortunately, I don't know of a way to avoid that problem except to buy the new version and keep it separate.

I apologize for this. When I originally created the book, I was told that updates would be free for existing owners, but NOT that the updates would delete bookmarks and highlights. If you really have extensive highlights and bookmarks, I'd forego the update. I didn't add arguments; all I did was tighten up the ones already there and (I hope) make the book a bit easier to read.

    2. Sorry, forgot to add this: I have one more set of changes to update. Again, they're mostly editorial type changes. The one substantive change is the addition of Olivia's comment to Becoming, which you can read here on the blog. Anyway, if you're thinking of downloading the update, wait until my next post announcing that (a couple of weeks).
